Eri Shimamoto

(b. 1972, Tokyo) Calligraphy Artist

Eri was only 8 years old when she started studying calligraphy, which was inspired by a yearning for beautiful handwriting. Moving forward to her work today as an artist who is a master of Japanese calligraphy, she opens to a flow of inspiration and feelings while writing that is akin to meditating with a brush in her hand, all while handling delicate Japanese paper and surrounded by the scent of ink. This unconscious exercise that is infused with Japanese language and culture is materialised as physical works that indefinitely capture the experience.

She has established her name as a calligrapher in Tokyo‭, ‬participating in group exhibitions and collaborating with companies‭ (‬for example‭, ‬a publishing company and department stores‭.‬

In addition to acquiring original works on display‭, ‬the artist is delighted to do commissioned work in which she personalises pieces with words and characters‭. ‬Each artwork is framed using exquisite craftsmanship that is specifically designed for Japanese‭ ‬calligraphy‭. ‬

Please contact Atelier Kisai to find out more about the artist‭, ‬acquiring original work and commissioning custom-made pieces of‭ ‬Sho Art‭.‬ Sho Art” (書Art) is, a new art form introduced by Atelier Kisai, the recognition of Japanese calligraphy created by artist Eri Shimamoto who invented the inks and pieces.
