Haruomi IZUMI
(b. 1979, Chiba prefecture)
Izumi’s paintings typically focus on nature in the form of landscapes. The artist says that there is no need to add or re-arrange anything from the original scenes, as they are complete with natural beauty, incorporating an array of colours, layers, forms and repetition. And yet, in each original setting, the artist discovers imperfection. The resulting paintings omit these elements, thereby presenting a refined version exclusively presenting natural splendour.
The artist uses mineral pigment to create metaphorical colours which is applied to Japanese paper. The result is masterful in ability and calm in mood, while bringing an air of power to setting. The frequent fascination of viewers who respond to the impact of these colours results in the artist applying them time and time again. Perhaps this is Izumi’s way of giving hope and strength to those who engage with his individual take on a perfected natural realm.
